Bacon Cracker Ingredients: What You’ll Need

Ingredients needed to make bacon crackers
  • 24 Club crackers (or any buttery cracker substitute)
  • 8 slices maple bacon (about ½ pound)
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp sriracha (optional, for a touch of heat)

Ingredient Tips and Substitutions for Your Bacon Crackers

  • Feel free to experiment with different types of buttery crackers like Ritz or even saltines. I’ve found that Club crackers tend to work best here. You may need to adjust the size of the bacon to better fit different crackers (cut into quarters instead of thirds if your crackers are smaller).
  • When it comes to bacon, other flavors can also be used to make bacon crackers, although maple is generally preferred for this recipe. Make sure to use traditional bacon, not thick-cut, for the best results.
  • For a savory option, try parmesan cheese or about 1 Tbsp of ranch dressing mix (the powder) instead of brown sugar (and use regular bacon). Maple syrup can be used as a substitute as well if you’re not using maple bacon.
  • The sriracha adds a nice touch of heat, but it’s entirely optional. If you’re looking for a different type of heat, you can also try cayenne pepper, black pepper, red pepper flakes, Cajun seasoning, or even hot honey.
  • For other delicious variations, try spreading about 1 tsp of cream cheese (or a similar soft cheese) on the cracker before wrapping it in bacon. This will create a creamy, rich layer that perfectly complements the salty bacon and crunchy cracker.

How to Make Air Fryer Candied Bacon Crackers: Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Cut each slice of bacon crosswise into thirds. In a bowl, toss the bacon with brown sugar and sriracha (if using) until evenly coated. This step will infuse the bacon with sweetness and a hint of spice for the most amazing flavor.

  1. Wrap each cracker in a slice of bacon. When wrapping the bacon, I usually go lengthwise. However, you can also wrap it crosswise, leaving the ends of the cracker open. If you’re having trouble getting the bacon to stay put during cooking, using this method can provide more overlap and help secure the bacon in place.
Wrap each cracker in a slice of bacon, ensuring a secure fit
  1. Place the bacon-wrapped crackers into the air fryer basket seam side down, ensuring that there is a little space between each one. This will allow for even cooking and maximum crispiness.

  1. Cook on the air fry setting at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes, or until the bacon is browned to your liking. Keep a close eye on the bacon crackers to ensure that they don’t burn. I recommend adding any extra cooking time in small increments and checking frequently. You can flip them after 4-5 minutes, but it’s generally not necessary.
  2. Cool the bacon crackers for about 5 minutes. This will allow them to firm up a bit more. After a few minutes of cooling, add any extra toppings you might like. A sprinkle of fresh herbs or a drizzle of honey can add a touch of flavor and make them look even more appealing. Enjoy!

Perfect Pairings: Serving Suggestions for Your Bacon Crackers

These air fryer candied bacon crackers are delicious on their own, but they can be even more of a crowd-pleaser when paired with other tasty treats! Here are some of my favorite pairing suggestions for serving your bacon crackers:

Dips & Sauces

  • Creamy Ranch Dip: The cool, herby creaminess of ranch dressing perfectly balances the salty crispiness of the bacon, creating a delicious contrast of flavors.
  • Honey Mustard: The sweet and tangy flavor of honey mustard adds a fun flavor pop to the crackers.
  • Smoky Aioli: For a richer, more savory depth, try serving your bacon crackers with a smoky aioli. The smoky flavor pairs beautifully with the bacon, creating a complex and satisfying taste.

Drinks to Complement Your Bacon Crackers

  • Light Beer or Lager: A light beer or lager is a refreshing choice that will cut through the saltiness of the bacon without overpowering the flavors.
  • Whiskey Ginger: A little spice and sweetness complements the smoky bacon.
  • Cranberry Vodka Cocktails: Tart and crisp, cranberry vodka cocktails are perfect for balancing richer bites. Check out my Cranberry Vodka Drinks for pairings made for any season!

Perfect Party Pairings

  • Cheese Board: Sharp cheddar or creamy brie gives the crackers a richer, more indulgent pairing option.
  • Pickles or Pickled Veggies: Bright and tangy, pickles and pickled veggies contrast the fattiness of the bacon beautifully.
  • Fresh Veggie Platter: Crunchy and refreshing, a fresh veggie platter offers a light counterpoint to the salty, buttery crackers.

Holiday Pairings That Will Wow Your Guests

  • Mulled Cider (Spiked or Not): Warm, cozy spices pair surprisingly well with salty bacon. My Microwave Mulled Wine is another great boozy option!
  • Holiday Snack Mixes: Sweet-and-salty snack mixes (with chocolate, nuts, or pretzels) play nicely alongside bacon crackers.
  • Sparkling Wine: The bubbles cut through the richness and make them feel instantly party-worthy, especially for New Year’s!

Air Fryer Bacon Cracker Recipe FAQs

What’s the Best Bacon for Bacon Crackers?

Thin-cut (traditional) bacon works best because it crisps up quickly without overcooking the crackers underneath. Thick-cut bacon can be used, but it may take longer to cook and won’t get quite as crisp (and you risk burning the crackers).

Are Candied Bacon Crackers Sweet or Savory?

They can be either sweet and salty or savory, depending on what seasonings you use. The bacon brings the savory crunch, while the brown sugar (or savory seasoning mix) adds a caramelized layer of sweet or savory on top.

Can I Bake Them Instead?

Yes, you can bake them in the oven if you prefer. Just place the crackers on a wire rack on a foil or parchment paper-lined baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) until the bacon is crispy and the sugar has melted, usually 20–30 minutes.

Tips for the Best Air Fryer Bacon Crackers

  • I cook these bacon crackers in my Ninja air fryer (without preheating), and 10 minutes is perfect. For second batches, I usually reduce to 7-8 minutes instead. Other air fryers can vary slightly, so adjust as needed in small increments.
  • It’s normal for some of the bacon to peel up from the edges. Bacon shrinks as it cooks, and if you don’t leave enough overlap, it will pop loose. They still taste great! You can always wrap around the middle and leave the ends of the crackers open instead to give it more overlap.
  • Do not pull the bacon too taut while wrapping, as it can then break the crackers as it shrinks during cooking. Just wrap it normally; no pulling needed.

Storage and Reheating Tips for Your Air Fryer Candied Bacon Crackers

Storage Tips

  • Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3–4 days. Because of the bacon, they can’t be stored at room temperature.
  • Layer with parchment or wax paper to keep the crackers from sticking together as the sugar cools and firms.
  • Keep them dry – any moisture will soften the crackers, so avoid storing them while still warm!

Reheating Tips

  • Air Fryer: Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 2–3 minutes to restore crispiness without overcooking the bacon.
  • Oven: Warm at 325°F (160°C) for 5–7 minutes if reheating a larger batch.
  • Skip the microwave, as it will make the crackers soft and chewy instead of crisp.
